Meet SoCal Wood Products
Rich and Karin have lived most of their lives in Orange County and can't imagine living anywhere else. Rich moved around during his school years and graduated from Estancia High School. Since 1962, Karin's parents have lived in the same house she grew up in. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School.
Settling in Costa Mesa themselves, some of their favorite go-to activities include whale watching on the Zodiac boats out of Newport Beach, taking long rides up or down Hwy 1 on his Triumph Bonneville T100, his pride and joy! Taking the Balboa Ferry over to get a frozen banana at Dad's is always a relaxing treat. They enjoy simple things like sitting at the beach to watch the sunset and watching the body surfers wipe out at The Wedge. You can always find them settling in at home with a good movie or watching our World Series Champions, The Dodgers.
This all started when Rich built a Montessori Child's Wardrobe for his granddaughter, Luna. It was shared on social media and soon people were asking if he would make one for them. Being retired, this became a great hobby that he enjoyed. After about 20 of those, he thought he would like to build a new workbench. That, too, was posted online, and the requests started coming in. Each one was different, customized to the client. He made one bench for a mechanic with a 1/4” steel top that he could put his engines on. He has made several outside potting benches for people with green thumbs, closet inserts, business conference tables, wrapping stations for mailing products, shelving to display artists' work, benches for jewelry making and the list goes on. One of his most exciting projects was a Re-Loader bench for a national champion skeet shooter. Designing all the specific bells and whistles was really fun! And we have now become official as SoCal Wood Products.
